Day 3 – From Santanilla del Mar to Llanes

Today was an exciting day, so hold on to your hats.

Over the last two days we’ve had repeated problems with my gears, but Stephan has always been able to fix them temporarily.

But this morning the time had come: Not even 2km after Santanilla del Mar, the cable for the shift cable broke, so that I could no longer shift gears. That’s pretty stupid when you’re standing in the middle of the mountain 😂 We then called a cab to take us to the nearest bike repair shop.

Here we are stranded in the middle of the village. After a lot of phone calls we found a cab. Now it’s time to wait ….
Bicycle being repaired. In addition to the cable, air is also quickly pumped onto the bike and new brake pads are fitted (oops, I must have braked a lot when going downhill)

The bike repair shop was in Torrelavega and very efficient (so if you ever have a problem I can recommend Kronos Bike). The only problem here was that it was again further away from the destination.

We then decided to take a cab to San Vicente de la Baquera. This allowed us to catch up with 30km and set off again from there.

Lunch break in San Vicente de la Baquera. Fortunately, my bike is now repaired.

After the lunch break, we had a nice drive along the villages. We crossed many bridges and the view was fantastic. The highlight was a panoramic road from Cotero to Puertas. That’s when you realize how high the mountains are and how deserted the Spanish villages can be.

Driving through the villages
Very quiet streets. Just us and nature.
Of course, climbs are also conquered today.
Enjoy this video of me trying to show the panorama and not die in the process (I can’t switch gears because I have to film)
We also saw donkeys!!!

After a rather short tour today, we arrived in Llanes. It’s a town festival here today and the town is full of small stalls.

City center of Llanes
You can find small stalls everywhere
And our hotel is right here at the harbor in the middle of the city.
And another picture of us two sweeties

Fortunately, we were able to repair my bike quickly so that we could continue the tour. I briefly thought we would have to stop and that would have been a shame!

Conclusion of the day today: looking after your bike is just as important as looking after your own body

Ahhh and alcohol sometimes helps against tired legs (I’ve heard…)
