Day 4 starts with an early breakfast so that we can set off towards Ribadesella at around 9:00 am. It’s only 30 km there and mostly flat. Worth mentioning here are the Picos de Europa, a trio of mountains that are up to 3000 m high.

After just under 1.5 hours, we arrived in Ribadesella. As Stephan had already been here on vacation with Pilar, he was keen to show me the hotel and the beach where they had stayed. The beach was actually quite full of people, although the weather was only moderate.

From Ribadesella onwards, the mountain climbing began. The meters of altitude had to come from somewhere. But the fact that this would mean several 17% gradients almost sent me to the other side several times.

As all the bays with beaches are always at the bottom of the water, you always have to drive down and then up again. But if you’re doing the tour, you also have to drive to the beaches… don’t you?

The last 17 km to get to our destination in Llastres. This was quite a leg-breaker because the village is in the mountains and we had to ride in with a 10-12% gradient.

We finally made it to Llandres at around 2pm. As we were there quite early and the sun was shining, we first went to the beach to cool off. That was necessary!!!

All we have to do today is rest. Stephan has already fallen asleep on the beach. He’s having a good time… I’ve already jumped into the water twice.
Conclusion of the day: If you already have your destination in sight, but there’s still a long way to go, then that’s pretty stupid.
