Day 7 – From Gij贸n to Cudillero

After our rest day yesterday, we set off today at 9:00 a.m. in the direction of the fishing village of Cudillero.

The tour gets off to a fresh start with great weather.

We take a nice relaxing drive on the country road and as it was so hot today (30-33 degrees) we don’t see anyone outside. It’s just us against the sun and the mountains 馃槅

Beautiful nature
Long and quiet roads with full heat!!!
The sun is very strong and your head gets warm.

The first stopover is the small industrial town of Aviles. A friend of mine is coming here (unfortunately she’s not here at the moment, otherwise we would have said hello 馃槀).

On the way, we also had a small problem with a car that took our right of way, so I crashed into Stephan’s rear wheel at full speed. Neither of us fell off, we just had a bit of a shock. However, the rear wheel then spun strangely, so we quickly went to the bike workshop. Everything was repaired here. We were lucky again, everything was fine馃

Aviles river. The industrial city is not so beautiful, but it is nice to cycle along the river.

After a short bike repair, we continued on. We took many small back roads and hardly any cars as we rode comfortably along the coast. The sun was burning down on our backs and we struggled up the mountains. In the middle of a small village (consisting of 5 houses) we asked two old Spanish grannies, completely dehydrated, if they could give us water. They filled up our bottles and chatted with us! The Spanish are very nice!

We finally arrived in Cudillero at around 2 pm. The village is small and cozy. Apart from a harbor and fish restaurants, there’s not much to see here. But that means we’re going out for a delicious fish dinner tonight!

Conclusion of the day today: those who brake later are faster.
