Day 9 – From Navia to Burela

It was still raining in Navia in the morning, so we waited a bit and only left Navia at 10 a.m. (but it was dry :)) We first took the country road towards Galicia.

The weather improves and we drive on the hard shoulder.

The first break comes in Tapia de Casariego. Tortilla de Patatas is also served this time. But it’s also super tasty😆

Short break. The sun comes out!!! Time to swap my glasses and get my sunglasses.

The route continues in the direction of Galicia. To get there, you have to cross a bridge. As it is very high and narrow, this is quite a challenge.

We saw some beautiful beaches on the way.
Always beautifully along the sea.
The bridge is crossed…
The view from the bridge is really beautiful.

Now we are in Galicia. We have already crossed the Basque Country, Asturias and now Galicia. So many different places, so many beautiful moments….

Now it’s not far from our destination.

Here we take a leisurely drive along the coast on a super asphalted road. The view is breathtaking and the photos can’t really capture it all. I can recommend simply driving the tour yourself so that you can take in everything 😂

Stephan shows me where the water is. Thank goodness! I thought I was in the desert 😂
Breathtaking cliffs and stormy waves. Simply amazing!

The tour today had many highlights: a very large beach that attracts many tourists (Playa dos Castros) and the Catedrales. As we didn’t have a reservation, we unfortunately couldn’t go down to the beach. But it was still nice to see them from above.

Playa dos Castros
The Catedrales… beautiful

From now on we have to pick up the pace, as it’s already 3 pm. No problem for us! Even if Komoot sometimes leads us through strange streets.

It feels like being in the jungle. Do I get a deja vu to Bali?

Part of a real bike tour is looking for food and taking breaks. However, as we had difficulty finding bars, this meant going to the supermarket and eating something!

We drink gazpacho in the supermarket parking lot. Whew! That’s life as a cyclist… Gazpacho really does fill you up and help you get some energy.

We arrive in Burela at 16:30. The village is not so nice, but okay for the night. We felt our legs today. But I’d say that’s quite normal for the eighth day…

Today’s quote of the day is from Erik Zabel (a German racing cyclist): You can’t train ambition.
