Today, we set out on the second leg of our journey from Bosau on Lake Pl\u00f6n to Vitzdorf on the island of Fehmarn.<\/p>\n\n

At 9 a.m., we set off toward Malente for breakfast. Unfortunately, there\u2019s no bakery in Bosau. That means we\u2019ll have to pedal 12 km first. <\/p>\n\n

It’s a nice walk along the nature park. Since there are so many trees here, we’re not getting hit by the sun too much yet. <\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n

Once we arrive in Malente, we start by enjoying a delicious breakfast to recharge our batteries. Here we also run into two other road cyclists who are carrying only a small bag and look much more athletic than we do (they had some serious calves!). <\/p>\n\n

Then we continue on toward Oldenburg. We both ride leisurely through the countryside along beautiful bike paths. The closer we get to the coast, the more we see the water (hurrah!!!). Around 1 p.m., it starts to get warmer, and you can really feel the heat. There\u2019s only one thing to do: pour water over your head and keep a cool head. <\/p>\n\n

Once we arrive in Oldenburg, we\u2019ll start with some ice cream. It\u2019s getting warmer and warmer, and we need to drink plenty of fluids. Then we\u2019ll rest in the shade. <\/p>\n\n

Now the fun begins. We ride our bikes across the bridge to Fehmarn. It\u2019s a narrow bike path, but the view is really nice. Luckily, no one\u2019s coming toward us, so we can ride at a leisurely pace. <\/p>\n\n

Then it\u2019s just the last few kilometers through Burg on Fehmarn and on to Vitzdorf. In Burg on Fehmarn, we\u2019re held up by a parade of Bully cars driving across the island and throwing a loud party (loud music, lots of honking, great atmosphere). <\/p>\n\n

After a 4-hour ride, 86 km, 330 meters of elevation gain, and plenty of sunshine (no rain, and the forecast thunderstorm never came either!), we finally arrive in Vitzdorf.<\/p>\n\n

We’re staying here with friends of Merle’s parents and will wrap up the evening with a barbecue together. Tomorrow we’ll take the ferry to Denmark!! <\/p>\n\n
